"Booked one night at the Grand Hotel...the 'new' governor's wing...i was to find out later that the new wing was 10 years old. Check in a slow process took around 15 minutes..while we were waiting we got tea and some sort of sweet as a welcome drink which was different to the other hotels. "A fine old colonial hotel hotel which has retained much of its character and ambience. Large wood-panelled rooms high ceilings polished foors. Good size rooms fresh fruit and choccies provided on arrival was a nice touch. The main dining room is enormous but tradition has been maintained. "Nothing 'Grand' about the Grand Hotel at Nuwara Eliya; we stayed 2 night in early October '08. Rooms /beds uncomfortable broken down TV non heating room heater even the pencil was a broken unsharpened piece.. No security safe in the room. And this was stated to be the "Governor's Wing' !
