Galle (day tour)
Galle (115km/3hrs south of Colombo)Galle known for its 17th century Dutch fort and is probably Sri Lanka's finest colonial town. The Galle Fort is a world heritage site and the largest remaining fortress in Asia built by European invaders. Other prominent landmarks in Galle include the St. Mary's Cathedral founded by Jesuit priests.
The old part of town, easily explored on foot is famous for lace-making, ebony-carving and gem-polishing. In the hills behind Galle is The Sun House, a former merchant’s house and now a really beautiful small hotel. Within the fort itself try the sociable Galle Fort Hotel the peaceful Fort Printers. Galle is on the main train line from Colombo.
Galle (Day excursion)
- After breakfast proceed to Galle. En-route you could see is the Toddy Tapping process. (Toddy tapping, Collecting, Toddy Spa, Etc…)
- Travel further and visit a Turtle Hatchery in Kosgoda. About Sea turtles explanation is given by a learned person.
- Leave from Meetiyagoda and you could see the famous Moonstone Gem – pits.
- There after proceed to Hikkaduwa and do a Glass Bottom boat tour in the sea to see Corals and beautiful fish.
- Leave for Gall and see the famous Dutch Fortress
- Travel further to Unawatuna (one of the famous beaches) for sea bathing and lunch.
- After lunch return to hotel. En-route visit a gem museum in Ambalangoda.
